CapeNature, the Western Cape’s conservation agency, runs cottages, eco cabins and campsites inside its reserves: the Cederberg, De Hoop, Kogelberg, Grootvadersbosch, Robberg and more. A night inside a reserve funds the fire crews, alien clearing and research that keep the fynbos alive.
Here is how booking works, what permits you need, and when the popular reserves fill up.
Pick a cottage or campsite and your dates, then send a request. We confirm with CapeNature, and once the dates are confirmed you pay on Spekboom. You can combine reserve nights with farm stays and guesthouses nearby in the same trip.
Your accommodation booking covers your stay inside the reserve. Day visitors need a permit for most reserves, and some hiking trails need their own permit even for overnight guests, so check your confirmation before you set out.
South African residents aged 60 and over get 30% off CapeNature self-catering and camping. CapeNature applies that discount only to bookings made through its own call centre, not online, so seniors who want it should book with CapeNature directly.
Book well ahead for school holidays, long weekends and the spring flower season from August to October. De Hoop fills up in whale season, roughly June to November, and the Cederberg is busiest over Easter and the December holidays.
