The Zululand Conservation Trust (ZCT) has been a steadfast presence in the Zululand region for over a decade, dedicated to advancing conservation efforts and safeguarding endangered species and their habitats.

Our Mission: Partnering with protected areas and communities to fulfil our commitment to conserving endangered species and their environment.

Key Programs:

Zululand Rhino Orphanage: Established in 2017, the orphanage cares for up to 22 rhinos annually. In 2024 alone, we received 12 new orphans and successfully released 5 back into the wild. We purchased 3,780kg of rhino milk, 10,800 bales of Teff, and covered R383,768 in veterinary expenses.

Protected Area Expansion: We manage 23,500 hectares under custodianship with 18 permanent staff and 24 casual labor opportunities. Our fence guardianship program employs 9 women and 2 men.

Endangered Species Protection: Our efforts include dehorning/trimming 37 white and 13 black rhinos, discovering 3 new pangolin pups, and deploying 53 security camera traps. In 2024, we made 4 arrests and removed 105 snares.

Community Upliftment: We support 4 early learning centers serving 160 children with 69,440 meals annually. Our permaculture training has reached 50 women, and our nursery creates permanent employment opportunities.
