Hosts on Spekboom have recorded the Springhare at stays in or beside Kruger National Park, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Addo Elephant National Park, Marakele National Park, Golden Gate Highlands National Park and Mokala National Park and other reserves. When is the best time to see the Springhare?
The Springhare is recorded throughout the year, so no month is the wrong month to look for it. For the parks where hosts record it most, these are the best seasons they give. Kruger National Park: Apr-Sep; Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Aug-Oct, flowers, Mar-May; Addo Elephant National Park: year-round, best Mar-May, Sep-Nov; Marakele National Park: May-Sep, dry season. In the dry months animals concentrate at water and the grass is short.

What is the Springhare?
The South African springhare (Pedetes capensis), or springhaas in Afrikaans, is not actually a hare, but a rodent. It is one of two living species in the genus Pedetes, and is native to southern Africa. Formerly, the genus was considered monotypic and the East African springhare (P. surdaster) was included in P. capensis.
