About this place
Olifants commands one of the finest settings in the Kruger National Park, perched high on a hill that towers several hundred feet above the Olifants River. The view from the camp, looking out over the river and the wide bushveld beyond, is among the most memorable in the park, and the elevated position catches a welcome breeze in the heat of the day.
The area holds most of Kruger's classic larger game. As the name suggests, elephant are common, and lion and leopard are seen regularly on game drives. Baboon and vervet monkey live in the camp, with thick-tailed bushbabies and fruit bats active at night. The rugged veld on rhyolite and basalt soils supports a rich variety of trees and plants, including several aloe species and other plants scarce elsewhere in the park.
The camp is well equipped, with a restaurant, cafeteria, shop and filling station, and a picnic area for day visitors. Phalaborwa Gate is the nearest entrance.
