Questions des voyageurs

Une observation signifie qu’un hôte a vu l’espèce White-fronted Plover sur place ou à proximité. Ce n’est jamais une garantie de la voir.

Which parks and reserves are best for the White-fronted Plover in South Africa?

Hosts on Spekboom have recorded the White-fronted Plover at stays in or beside Kruger National Park, Goukamma Nature Reserve, iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Table Mountain National Park, Garden Route National Park and Keurbooms River Nature Reserve and other reserves. A record means a host has seen it on the property or nearby, which makes these the places to base yourself; it is never a guarantee of a sighting on any given day.

Where can you see the White-fronted Plover in South Africa?

The White-fronted Plover is most recorded in Western Cape (67% of records), KwaZulu-Natal (18% of records), Eastern Cape (11% of records), based on 2,456 iNaturalist observations. 28 places to stay on Spekboom in South Africa have recorded the White-fronted Plover on site or nearby.

When is the best time to see the White-fronted Plover?

The White-fronted Plover is recorded throughout the year, so no month is the wrong month to look for it. For the parks where hosts record it most, these are the best seasons they give. Kruger National Park: Apr-Sep; Goukamma Nature Reserve: year-round, warm Oct-Apr; iSimangaliso Wetland Park: year-round, dry season May-Sep; Table Mountain National Park: Sep-Apr, flowers Aug-Oct. In the dry months animals concentrate at water and the grass is short.

What is the White-fronted Plover?

The white-fronted plover or white-fronted sandplover is a small (45-50 g) shorebird of the family Charadriidae that inhabits sandy beaches, dunes, mudflats and the shores of rivers and lakes in sub-saharan Africa and Madagascar. It nests in small shallow scrapes in the ground and lays clutches of one to three eggs.
