Route 62
World's longest wine route: 850km from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth through wine valleys, mountain passes, and the Klein Karoo.
About this route
Route 62 is South Africa's answer to America's Route 66—a legendary road trip that showcases the country's wine culture, mountain passes, and Klein Karoo hospitality. Stretching 850 kilometers from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, this is officially the world's longest wine route, threading through the Breede River Valley and into the semi-arid Klein Karoo before emerging at the coast. Built in the 1920s to connect small farming communities with harbor towns, Route 62 predates the modern N2 highway and retains its historical charm.
