Vrae wat reisigers vra

’n Waarneming beteken dat ’n gasheer die Golden-tailed Woodpecker op die eiendom of naby gesien het. Dit waarborg nooit dat jy dit sal sien nie.

Which parks and reserves are best for the Golden-tailed Woodpecker in South Africa?

Hosts on Spekboom have recorded the Golden-tailed Woodpecker at stays in or beside Kruger National Park, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park and iSimangaliso Wetland Park. A record means a host has seen it on the property or nearby, which makes these the places to base yourself; it is never a guarantee of a sighting on any given day.

Where can you see the Golden-tailed Woodpecker in South Africa?

The Golden-tailed Woodpecker is most recorded in KwaZulu-Natal (45% of records), Limpopo (20% of records), Mpumalanga (18% of records), based on 1,015 iNaturalist observations. 26 places to stay on Spekboom in South Africa have recorded the Golden-tailed Woodpecker on site or nearby.

When is the best time to see the Golden-tailed Woodpecker?

The Golden-tailed Woodpecker is recorded throughout the year, so no month is the wrong month to look for it. For the parks where hosts record it most, these are the best seasons they give. Kruger National Park: Apr-Sep; Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Aug-Oct, flowers, Mar-May; Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park: year-round, dry season May-Sep; iSimangaliso Wetland Park: year-round, dry season May-Sep. In the dry months animals concentrate at water and the grass is short.

What is the Golden-tailed Woodpecker?

The golden-tailed woodpecker (Campethera abingoni) is a species of bird in the family Picidae. Its specific name commemorates the 5th Earl of Abingdon. It belongs to a species complex that includes the Knysna woodpecker to the south of its range, and the mostly allopatric Mombasa woodpecker to the northeast, with which it perhaps hybridizes.
